Texas Electrical Apprentices and Journeyman: How to Upgrade your License

Do you currently hold a Texas Apprentice or Journeyman electrical license? Are you looking to upgrade that license to the next class? In order to upgrade your license there are a few experience requirements that you must fulfill and you are required to pass an electrical exam for your new license type. Upgrading Your Texas Electrical Apprentice License to a Journeyman License:
Texas Electrical Apprentices who are ready to become journeyman must have 8,000+ hours of on the job training under a master electrician. Candidates are required to submit a work history verification form. Once your experience is approved you will become eligible to take the journeyman electrical exam and you will receive information on how to schedule your exam.
What if I held a journeyman license in a Texas municipality that no longer issues licenses?
If you hold a journeyman license in a Texas municipality that has stopped issuing them you can submit and application within 90 days of when the issuing of licenses has stopped. You will then be issued a state-wide license from the TDLR.
Upgrading Your Texas Electrical Journeyman License to a Master License:
Texas Journeyman must meet the following requirements to upgrade their electrical license from Journeyman to Master.
- Complete 12,000+ hours of on the job training under a licensed Texas Master Electrician.
- Hold a Texas Journeyman electrical license for at least 2 years.
- Pass the Texas Master Electrical Exam
