If it’s time to renew your Master & Special Electrician license, the process can easily be completed online. Continue reading to learn which steps are required to successfully renew your electrical license in New York City.

New York City Electrical License Renewal Process

1. Submit Required Documents

Several documents are required to confirm your identity, experience, and education. Some documents are as basic as a government-issued ID and a utility bill to provide proof of address. Other forms are more specific, including updated insurance certificates, your license card, a physical examination form, and the LIC38 Electrical License Application form. Click here to see the full list of required forms and documents as well as links to these forms online.

2. Pay Your Renewal Fees

Currently the license renewal fee is $60 with an additional fee of $30 for a seal. These fees will be due at the time you submit your application for renewal. If for whatever reason the renewal fee is submitted late, you will automatically be charged a $400 late fee and will be required to submit with a notarized affidavit describing why the renewal was completed late.

Once all documents have been submitted and the associated fees have been paid, your renewed license card will be sent to your place of business.

3.   Complete Your Continuing Education Hours

As of January 1, 2016, anyone pursuing a Master & Special Electrician license renewal must successfully complete a department-approved course of at least 8 hours by an approved school or course provider. This requirement for continued education is intended to help improve your skills as well as the safety of your customers.
