Continuing Education Requirements

In Michigan, CE is only required if the state adopts a new edition of the National Electrical Code (NEC). When this occurs, licensees have 12 months to complete NEC-related CE.

The required CE hours are:

  • Master and Journeyman Electricians: 15 hours
  • Fire Alarm Specialty Technicians: 15 hours
  • Sign Specialists: Eight hours

Whether CE is needed or not, Journeyman and Master electrician licenses expire on December 31 each year and can be renewed within 60 days. A sign specialist license expires on December 31 every three years.

LARA accepts CE credit from approved education providers like JADE Learning. We offer 15 and eight-hour course packages.
