Renewal Requirements

Journeymen and Administrators in Alaska are required to complete continuing education (CE) training to renew their licenses. The amount of required CE is different depending on the license type:

  • Electrical Administrator
    • Eight hours related to either the National Electrical Code (NEC) or the National Electrical Safety Code
    • The renewal deadline is every odd year on December 31st.
  • Electrical Journeyman
    • 16 hours total, with eight covering the NEC and the rest being industry-related.
    • The renewal deadline is every two years on the anniversary of the license issue date.

Two state agencies regulate the different license types: The Division of Corporations, Business and Professional Licensing and The Department of Labor, Labor Standards and Safety. They only accept CE credit from approved education providers like JADE Learning.

How much does renewing cost?

When budgeting for renewal, consider the cost of CE plus the following state application filing fees:

Administrators

  • Biennial license: $170
