Do you need help renewing your Idaho electrical license? JADE Learning has the answers. We can help you understand the renewal process and connect you to the continuing education you need to update your license. Here are your step by step instructions.

Renewing Your Electrical License in Idaho

Step 1: Look up your license expiration date.

An electrical license issued in Idaho is valid for 3 years. If you don’t know when your license expires, you should contact the Idaho Division of Building Safety (DBS). We recommend putting it in your calendar and setting a reminder — 3 years can fly by before you know it.

Step 2: Complete your Idaho electrical continuing education.

Apprentice, Master, and Journeyman electricians in Idaho must complete a total of 24 hours of continuing education in order to renew their electrical license. The credit breakdown of these courses is as follows:

  • 8 hours must be dedicated to the National Electrical Code (NEC) and its most recent changes (CD)
  • 8 hours must be devoted to code-related training (CR).
  • 8 hours must be industry-related continuing education (IR).

Good news: JADE Learning offers all of the continuing education courses needed to renew an electrical license in the state of Idaho. These courses are taught entirely online by fellow licensed electricians and NEC code experts with decades of experience in the industry. All of our courses have been approved by the Idaho Electrical Bureau since 2005.

With online courses, you’re free to work at your own pace, on your own time, from wherever you wish. You can sign in from a desktop computer, laptop, tablet, or even a smartphone and save your progress to continue again at another time.

Choose any course you wish — they’re all free to start. You pay when you have successfully completed the course and would like your credits reported to the Idaho DBS. We offer rush reporting for your completed hours each business day at no extra charge. Our course list for Idaho electrical continuing education includes:

  • 2017 NEC Changes (CD)
  • 2020 NEC Changes (CD)
  • Commercial and Industrial Wiring (IR)
  • Grounding and Bonding (CR)
  • Installing Services (IR)
  • OSHA Safety for Electricians (IR)
  • Overcurrent Protection (IR)
  • Residential Wiring (CR)

Step 3: Send in your renewal application and fees.

Once you’ve finished your continuing education requirements, we recommend waiting a couple of days to make sure the state has processed your hours. Then you can send in your electrical license renewal application. The renewal fee is based on your license classification:

  • Journeyman / Master: $45
  • Contractor: $100
  • Apprentices: $50

There’s more information on the forms you need and the fees for electrical license renewal on the Idaho DBS website.
