Pennsylvania water operators are required by the Water and Wastewater Systems Operators’ Certification Act to demonstrate the appropriate skills, knowledge and abilities to make the correct process control decisions needed to meet water quality standards. A minimum standard of education and a passing score on appropriate examinations is required in order to earn a Pennsylvania water certification.

How to Renew Your Pennsylvania Water Operator License
Water Operators in Pennsylvania must complete between 3 and 30 hours of continuing education every 3 years in order to renew their license.
- Wastewater & Drinking Water Class A, B, & C: First Three Years = 15 hours, Next Three Years = 30 hours
- Wastewater & Drinking Water Class D & E: First Three Years = 8 hours, Next Three Years = 15 hours
- Grandparented (CSSP & NTNC): First Three Years = 8 hours, Next Three Years = 15 hours
- Drinking Water Class Dc: First Three Years = 4 hours, Next Three Years = 9 hours
- Drinking Water Class Dn: First Three Years = 3 hours, Next Three Years = 6 hours
License expiration date is staggered by license type. Your course completion certificate will be emailed to you upon completion of the course.
