Learn More About New Mexico Water Certification

Anyone who operates a public water supply system or a public wastewater facility must hold an active New Mexico utility operator certification of the correct type and level for the system or facility, or must be supervised by an individual who holds an active New Mexico utility operator certification of the correct type and level for the system or facility. This means that the operator certification cannot be lapsed or expired to be considered.

How to Renew Your New Mexico Water Certification

New Mexico Water Operators are required to complete 5 – 30 continuing education hours for renewal, depending on license type. 1 completed hour of NMED-approved water operator training = 1 CE credit.

  • Water Sampling Tech 1 (WST1) = 5 CE credits
  • Water Sampling Tech 2 (WST2) = 10 CE credits
  • All other water & wastewater levels = 30 CE credits
  • An operator holding only WATER CERTIFICATION needs 10 CREDITS IN WATER. The remaining 20 credits can be in water, wastewater, or any ‘other’ approved category.
