Texas Alarm Systems License Renewal Information
(Information is deemed reliable but not guaranteed. Please check with your state board.)
Texas Alarm Systems License Renewal Requirements: 8 hours of continuing education; 7 must relate to type of registration held and 1 must cover ethics. Locksmith: 16 hours required every 2 years. Alarm system installer or salesperson: 16 hours required with 2 hours covering the NEC during the first year, subsequent renewals 8 hours required with 1 hour covering the NEC.

How do I renew my license? (6) All registrants shall indicate they have completed the required minimum hours of board-approved continuing education credits on their application for renewal. A renewal application shall also include name of school, school number, seminar number, seminar date, and credits earned.
What if I don't renew my license? (a) "A license, registration, endorsement, or commission may not be renewed until the required minimum hours of board approved continuing education credits have been obtained in accordance with the Act and board rules."
Why should I renew my license? (8) "For the protection of the installer and the general public, the work of an alarm system installer who has not completed the required hours of instruction must be overseen by an installer who has completed the required hours of instruction. The oversight required under this section need not involve direct, physical supervision, but the overseeing installer is responsible for ensuring that the installation complies with all applicable requirements and regulations."
What happens if I'm late to renew my license? If the registration has been expired for less than one year and the individual has changed employers, the new employer must submit the following: form PSB-14 (PDF) (Employee Information Update), the $17.00 update fee, form PSB-17 (PDF) (Individual Renewal), the renewal fee, late fee and subscription fee. Note: If the registration has been expired more than 6 months, the current employer must also submit 2 fingerprint cards and the $25.00 FBI fee. If the registration has been expired for more than one year, the current employer must submit an original application, 2 fingerprint cards, the registration fee, the FBI fee and the subscription fee.
