How to Renew Your Florida Electrical License

Step 1: Know Your Renewal Requirements

The first step in renewing a Florida electrical license is to know your renewal deadline and the type of continuing education training you’ll need.

All Florida electrical licenses expire on the same day no matter when they were issued or the type of license. Florida electrical licenses expire on August 31 of every even-numbered year, which means you will have to renew your license before that date to avoid any additional fees or re-training. 

In order to renew an electrical license in Florida, you must complete some continuing education  training. The amount and type of training needed is determined by the type of license you wish to renew. 

Certified Electrical Contractors 

11 total hours

• 1 hour on workers’ compensation
• 1 hour on workplace safety
• 1 hour on business practices
• 1 hour on Florida laws and rules
• 7 hours of technical training to include 1 hour on Florida Building Code advanced module course and 2 hours on false alarm prevention for contractors who perform alarm work

Registered Electrical Contractors

11 total hours

• 1 hour on workers’ compensation
• 1 hour on workplace safety
• 1 hour on business practices
• 1 hour on Florida laws and rules
• 7 hours of technical training to include 1 hour on Florida Building Code advanced module course

Certified and Registered Alarm Contractors

7 total hours

• 1 hour on workers’ compensation
• 1 hour on workplace safety
• 1 hour on business practices
• 1 hour on Florida laws and rules
• 1 hour on Florida Building Code advanced module course
• 2 hours on false alarm prevention

Certified and Registered Specialty Contractors 

7 total hours

• 1 hour on workers’ compensation
• 1 hour on workplace safety
• 1 hour on business practices
• 1 hour on Florida laws and rules
• 1 hour on Florida Building Code advanced module course
• 2 hours of general credits

Step 2: Complete Your Training
